Conservation of ancient French buildings

We support generally in the provision of our services the approach and philosophy recommended by all national and international organisations involved in the conservation and preservation of our heritage.

- We will wherever possible advocate the maintainance and conservation of the historical features and construction characteristics of ancient buildings.

- The fine dividing line between preferring clearly identifiable modern repairs to invisible matching repairs can only be assessed and evaluated case by case.

- New build extensions to ancient buildings should however be of a sympathetic and discrete but contemporary architectural design.

- Particular regard must be given to the insertion of new buildings in historical townscapes or in rural landscapes as conservation philosophy is concerned not only with the buildings themselves but also with their immediate environment and with the economy and ecology of their locality.  Each operation must be considered not only in terms of how one can reduce its potential impact but also as an opportunity for a positive contribution and improvement.
